Young patients at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) undergoing bone marrow transplants (BMT) spend 100 days in isolation rooms for recovery. These rooms are essential for kids dealing with leukemia and other blood disorders, but can be isolating without family nearby.
One such patient, Ava Hainshwang, diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at 10, spent 100 days in isolation. She felt trapped in a glass-walled space, isolated from her family and unable to see her brother.
Electric Real Estate has been actively fundraising to renovate and improve isolation rooms for young patients at SickKids, recognizing the impact on emotional and physical recovery. Over $350,000 has been raised in the last four years with support from brokers and real estate leaders in Toronto.
