In a recent social media post, American rapper Nicki Minaj claimed she was detained at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on charges related to possession of mild narcotics.
Minaj, aged 41, was reportedly held just a few hours before she was scheduled to perform at a concert in Manchester, England.
The Dutch military police confirmed that a 41-year-old American woman was detained for having mild narcotics in her possession on Saturday, noting that it is illegal to transport such substances outside of the Netherlands.
Although the police did not reveal the identity of the woman, a subsequent post on social media platform X indicated that she was fined and released around 1945 GMT.
This was approximately 45 minutes after Minaj was slated to start her concert at the Manchester Co-op Live in Manchester, England.
Prior to this, Minaj had shared a video on X where a Schiphol employee seemed to inform her that the police wished to “search all her luggage”.
In another video posted on her social media, a police officer can be heard telling her that she was “carrying drugs”. Minaj refutes this claim in the video.
“They’re now saying they found weed & that another team has to come over here to weigh the pre-rolls,” she stated in a subsequent post.
The ex-judge of “American Idol” performed at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome last Thursday and is set to return for another performance on June 2.
Minaj is notorious for starting shows late. Last Thursday, she took to the stage nearly three hours post the publicized start time.
