Four institutions in Ontario have been selected by the regulator to offer real estate registration education in the province, and new student enrollment will start in the summer of 2025.
The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) has approved Algonquin College, Career College Group, Humber Polytechnic, and Fleming College as providers.
More choice for education
RECO aims to give learners more flexibility and options while upholding the necessary education standards for real estate professionals in Ontario.
“Since 2014, RECO has been dedicated to enhancing real estate education in Ontario through research and industry consultations,” said Joseph Richer, registrar at RECO. “This new initiative aligns with our vision and offers learners more options while maintaining high education standards for the real estate sector to better serve their clients.”
New curriculum will include TRESA
The real estate education program, redesigned in 2019, includes experiential learning and simulated sessions based on real transactions to better prepare learners for real estate trading, according to a press release from the regulator.
The curriculum has been updated to incorporate recent legislative and regulatory changes to the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA). Some providers may offer extra courses and networking opportunities. Assessments will be standardized across all providers, with Meazure Learning handling exams during the transition to multiple institutions.
This change moves away from the current model where NIIT Canada, in partnership with Humber Polytechnic, was the sole education provider. NIIT/Humber Polytechnic will no longer accept new learners starting in the spring, and current students can finish their courses by September.
Transition plans are in place, with specific dates to be confirmed soon by RECO. Additional TRESA content will be added to pre-registration and post-registration courses for existing learners.
