The Cornerstone Association of Realtors (Cornerstone) Amalgamation Task Force (ATF) has announced the appointment of Drew Hemsley as chair-elect and Bill Duce as the chief executive officer.
Effective July 1, Cornerstone will bring together approximately 9,000 realtors from the Hamilton-Burlington, Mississauga, Simcoe, and Waterloo Region real estate associations, becoming Ontario’s second-largest and Canada’s fourth-largest real estate board.
Hemsley will work alongside Julie Sergi, the first chair of Cornerstone for the 2024/2025 board of directors.
Drew Hemsley
Hemsley has been a director at the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board (SDREB) since 2022 and currently holds the position of president.
“There are significant changes ahead in organized real estate over the next decade,” says Hemsley. “I believe that Cornerstone is well-positioned to lead these changes, and I am excited to support our board chair, Julie Sergi, and our newly appointed CEO as we navigate these exciting developments with our board of directors for the benefit of our members.”
Bill Duce
Bill Duce currently serves as the CEO of the Waterloo Region Association of Realtors (WRAR). He was involved in the establishment of the Ontario Regional Technology & Information Systems (ORTIS) regional initiative and led the Information Technology Systems of Ontario (ITSO) regional initiative in 2018, which merged 17 boards from ORTIS and the Ontario Collective groups into a single regional MLS system.
As CEO of the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of Realtors, Duce oversaw the amalgamation with the Cambridge Association of Realtors, forming WRAR in 2022.
“I am a creator by nature, and I am excited to bring together four outstanding associations to create something greater than the individual parts,” says Duce. “Organized real estate is ripe for transformation, and Cornerstone has the potential to lead this change while keeping our realtor members at the core of everything we do.”
