Peter and Paige Torkan (Facebook)
Husband-and-wife Realtors Peter and Paige Torkan aimed to elevate Toronto’s global presence, and they believe they have accomplished that goal.
The couple is featured in Season 1 of Luxe Listings Toronto, currently available for reality show enthusiasts who may have missed its initial release last year.
This seven-episode series is a spin-off of Australia’s popular show Luxe Listings Sydney and showcases the Torkans’ upscale properties, clients, and insights into Toronto’s luxury real estate market.
Bringing the show to life
In 2020, an Amazon executive approached the Torkans. Peter insisted on two conditions before agreeing to be on camera: their privacy must be respected, and the show must uphold their professional reputation.
“We don’t like drama,” Peter explains. “We wanted to protect our name, protect the city… The series presents Toronto in a fantastic light.”
Although there were delays in the production process, once filming began, the couple managed long days of shooting while running their brokerage and serving clients.
Showcasing Toronto’s luxury market
The show highlights the Torkans’ listings, including a $7 million penthouse as the lowest-priced property. Their portfolio consists of multi-million-dollar homes in Toronto’s most prestigious neighborhoods like York Mills, Forest Hill, Lawrence Park, and The Bridle Path.
Peter mentions that when the series premiered about nine months ago, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
“We received numerous messages, love, emails, and essays praising the show’s portrayal of the city,” he shares.
From humble beginnings
Peter, the founder of Team Torkan and The Agency, Brokerage in Toronto, has completed over $1.6 billion in luxury transactions. However, his journey was not always glamorous.
Originally from Iran, he moved to Canada in 1994 after being educated in Europe. “I pumped gas for $5 an hour, cooked pizza, delivered pizza,” he recalls. He obtained his real estate license nearly two decades ago and built his business from scratch.
Paige and Peter met in Iran before his move to Canada. They got engaged and married over the phone, with Paige in Iran and Peter in Canada. Paige struggled to find work in computer engineering due to lack of Canadian experience and ended up working at a downtown coffee shop to help with rent. She later transitioned to finance before joining Peter in real estate.
“I have a passion for homes and design,” Paige, a licensed Realtor for 15 years, mentions.
The couple hopes their story inspires young professionals to set ambitious goals.
The reality of luxury real estate
Peter stresses that achieving success in the luxury market is no easy feat.
“It’s not easy. You need a focused mind, determination… Everything starts with a mindset. If you constantly doubt yourself, negativity spreads into other areas of life,” he states.
Paige adds that even local viewers were surprised by the glamorous real estate showcased in the series.
Will there be a season 2?
As of now, a second season has not been confirmed.
“Realistically, it’s a lot of work. We are hesitant,” Peter mentions.
